Anita & Hans Nittnaus, Blaufränkisch Eastside 2017 750ML

The Bottle: You may have never heard of Blaufrankisch but it's one of the most widely-grown red grapes in Central and Eastern Europe. It's been called "The Pinot Noir of Eastern Europe," because of its popularity there.

The Producer: The Nittnaus estate was established by Hans’ grandfather Johann Nittnaus in 1927, and was taken over by Anita & Hans in 1985. In a short period of time, Nittnaus became a leading winery in the region.

The Why:This biodynamic red has an evocative nose of cranberry, dried berries, herbs and white pepper. The palate has nice purple fruit and earthy black pepper spiciness that lingers.
